We are seeking expressions of interest and proposals for an 18th Century walled garden site in Hertfordshire. There is 0.5 ha available with a potential to expand to a further 2 ha and additional agricultural buildings. The current site is used for a local box scheme and is available due to the grower’s retirement.
The site is next to a main road and surrounded by good potential and relatively untapped markets. There is water but no electricity at present. There is basic accommodation to rent available locally. There are links to other land and food businesses in the community including a café and pub. There is potential to collaborate with existing activities that are focused on heritage, environment and wellbeing. These include parkland and a grade I listed garden, pasture fed beef box scheme, woodland enterprises, stewardship conservation activities, an allotment society, an educational programme (farm visits and forest schools) and care projects using horses.
Selection criteria will include viability of the proposed business and experience of applicants. Applications which also provide environmental and community benefits are welcomed.
Please send expression of interest of no more than 1 page stating your ideas and experience to farm@stpaulswaldenbury.co.uk or ring 01438871229."
